ATF Drops Pistol Brace Rule

We’ve known this was coming, but I am surprised in the details. In the most laymen terms, I understand the weapon’s platform the brace was built for is still legal as well as the pistol brace itself. The moment you put a pistol brace on a pistol, it does some sort of dark web magic and it turns into a SBR (short barrel rifle). Depending on how long you’ve been paying attention, this may remind you of some years back when that same magic happened when you accidentally shoulder a braced pistol.

If you’ve look through the paperwork, you may have found out that simply removing the brace from your pistol may not be good enough. If you destroy your brace they can’t say that you would ever have intent on installing it later. Yet, if you have any stocks laying around they could look at intent with those. That’s why I would recommend anyone wanting to keep their AR pistol and brace to change out their carbine buffer tube with a pistol buffer tube. The smooth tube cannot accept any of the adjustable pistol braces or stocks. There are some non-adjusting braces (blades) that fit on pistol buffer tubes and unfortunately I don’t see a good outcome for those. I would recommend taking it out on the boat..

Another option is to convert the firearm to a rifle by swapping out the barrel for something 16″ or longer. You would then be able to replace your brace with a stock. Keep in mind that changing the barrel or caliber of the firearm could require a new bolt carrier group and/or headspace check. Contact us if you’d like us to provide you with the armory services necessary for these conversions.

Either way you look at it; it’s bad. I see no way this helps public safety, but I can see clearly how it tries to force Americans to put themselves on a registry.
